Vascular Medicine

Vascular Medicine is a subspecialty dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with diseases of the arteries, veins, and lymph system. Physicians who specialize in vascular medicine are skilled in patient evaluation, vascular diagnostic testing, and medical and interventional treatment, and can recommend vascular surgery when appropriate. Some of the most common conditions that vascular medicine specialists treat include:

  • Varicose veins and spider veins
  • Peripheral Artery Disease
  • Leg pain (Buerger's Disease)
  • Non-healing wounds
  • Aneurysm
  • Renal artery disease
  • Blood Clots - deep vein thrombosis
  • Lymphedema - swelling of arms or legs due to a buildup of fluid
  • Management of risk factors such as high cholesterol, hypertension, and diabetes

Non-invasive diagnosis is made possible with the GHS vascular laboratory housed at the Vascular Health Alliance. With the highest levels of accreditation, the Alliance vascular lab program is one of the largest in the Southeast, with certified vascular technologists performing more than more than 18,000 diagnostic tests each year.
