The Bariatric Surgery division features the region’s only Surgical Review Corporation-certified Center of Excellence for the care of bariatric patients, a service provided at Hillcrest Memorial Hospital. Cardiovascular Risk Reduction
The Cardiovascular Risk Reduction program at GHS assists patients with known vascular disease by identifying areas of risk and implementing strategies for addressing these concerns.
Colon and Rectal Surgery
The Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery at GHS has four fellowship trained and board certified colorectal surgeons who provide both surgical and non-surgical care for a range of colorectal conditions, from colorectal cancer to hemorrhoids to functional disorders.
GHS is home to the busiest endocrine surgery center in the state. The center has two fellowship-trained endocrine surgeons on staff to care for patients with a range of endocrine health problems.
GHS has one of the largest groups of general surgeons in South Carolina. These surgeons provide 24-7 coverage at Greenville Memorial Hospital and also handle emergent surgeries for private practice and for community hospitals.
Gynecological & Womens Surgery
The Department of OB-GYN at GHS offer an array of minimally invasive procedures for everything from hysterectomy to breast cancer intervention to treatment of rare conditions such as vaginal agenesis. The team includes fellowship-trained urogynecologists who perform operations to address urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and other problems.
The Hernia Center
The Hernia Center provides specialized hernia care through a focus on minimal access techniques, procedure outcomes analysis, involvement in clinical trials, and more. The center's two co-directors are nationally recognized experts in innovative hernia surgery.
Minimally Invasive Surgery
The division of Minimal Access Surgery at GHS is a regional referral and teaching center specializing in laparoscopic, endoscopic and minimally invasive surgery. The division includes two fellowship-trained surgeons who are raising the bar in patient safety and successful outcomes.
The members of the Neurosurgery division at GHS are residency and fellowship-trained at nationally recognized neurosurgical programs, providing the area with an advanced level of specialty care.
From administering trauma care to offering the latest advances in sight correction, the ophthalmologists on the GHS medical staff serve a diverse range of needs.
This department employs many physicians of the prestigious Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas, a nationally recognized practice specializing in orthopaedics and sports medicine.
Treating a diverse range of conditions affecting the ears, nose, throat, face, and neck, the Otolaryngology Division of the Department of Surgery provides a full spectrum of care for patients.
GHS Children’s Hospital offers the expertise of surgeons who perform general pediatric surgery, plus other surgeons who specialize in pediatric orthopaedics, urology and neurosurgery. Children’s Hospital has its own emergency department. The hospital’s surgeons are leading the way in minimally invasive techniques, and a there are plans for a new pediatric brain tumor program.
Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
The Plastic Surgery division is anchored by Greenville’s most experienced reconstructive plastic surgeons and provides the most comprehensive plastic surgical care in the Upstate, including cosmetic surgery, hand surgery, reconstructive plastic surgery and facial trauma surgery. Soon, GHS will welcome the area’s only fellowship-trained craniofacial plastic surgeon.
This division has two fellowship-trained surgical oncologists. As part of GHS’ Total Cancer Care program, these surgeons actively participate in the Multidisciplinary Center (MDC) where patients receive one-stop, multispecialty evaluation for their oncological condition and the latest evidence-based care.
Thoracic surgery includes operations for diseases of the chest. This division at GHS is lead by experienced surgeons specializing in all types of thoracic surgery, including operations for the treatment of cancerous tumors and benign diseases.
GHS' Trauma Surgery Service is the most comprehensive provider of surgical care in the Southeast, encompassing one of South Carolina's four Level I Trauma Programs in its scope. Realizing that surgical problems are often unplanned and demand immediate attention, the service has placed a board-certified surgeon in Greenville Memorial Hospital (GMH) 24 hours a day. GMH is the only hospital in the five-county Upstate region that provides on-site surgery coverage.
At the Institute for Vascular Health, patients have access to a wide variety of endovascular treatments. Our team has the expertise to perform more types of endovascular procedures than any other practice in the region.

The Vascular Surgery division is made up of nine vascular surgeons. It comprises part of the medical staff of the Vascular Health Alliance. Vascular Surgery is nationally renowned for the scope of its practice and the size of its patient population. Faculty members frequently serve as experts on national panels and are featured speakers for regional and national societies.
The Vein Center provides advanced treatments for varicose and spider veins to relieve symptoms, improve appearance, and possibly prevent a more complex medical condition.
Wound Care Center
The Wound Care Center provides a comprehensive wound care program for patients suffering from a wound or infection. The goal of treatment is to help patients make a complete and successful recovery.
