Cardiovascular Risk Reduction

The GHS Cardiovascular Risk Reduction program involves the systematic application of current American Heart Association guidelines to each surgical and medical patient presenting to the Vascular Health Institute. This will ensure that all patients are aware of the goals and targets that have been shown to reduce risk in patients with known vascular disease. The areas of risk that are addressed are smoking cessation, blood pressure control, lipid and cholesterol control, use of appropriate anti-platelet drugs and blood thinners, obesity, and diabetic control. After identification of the areas of concern and the start of programs to reduce cardiovascular risk, the strategies will be shared with the primary health care providers to implement and provide on-going follow up visits.
